It's Official

Yesterday was somewhat of a whirlwind. And that is putting it mildly. Really mildly. I started out the day with a doctor's appointment to check on Caden, and he said I was 4 cm dilated and to go to the hospital that evening sometime and they would induce me in the morning if I didn't go into labor before then. I told him I was going to have to wait to have the baby because we were supposed to CLOSE ON OUR HOUSE that afternoon at 2. And there was NO way I wanted to jeopardize that, even if I was having contractions.

I left the doctor, spent an hour at the bank to wire money for our closing. Then we rushed home to drop off Jayci and Sharonda so Adam and I could go to the closing attorney's office.

When we finally walked (ok, let's be honest, I waddled more than walked at this point) into the attorney's office, it was us and our realtor but of course the investor and his realtor weren't there. Which was fine, except that the attorney handed us a piece of computer paper that said we owed our investor (who has just been an absolutely pleasure to work with the entire process. Note the sarcasm) an additional $6k (plus our closing costs). Why? Oh because we owed him interest on the money he put in for the renovations on the house. Regardless of the fact that our contract said NOTHING about interest, and you would think that a real estate attorney might be able to read the contract and see that. Oh and he also said we owed him rent for the time we were "using the house" (aka renovating it for free and sleeping there to make sure nothing got stolen).

Anyways, to make a long and stressful story short, we argued for over an hour (and all the conversations had to be relayed by phone because the lovely investor wasn't even there). I was a little stressed and at one point I told them, "excuse me sir but I'm about to have this baby on this table right here". Ok I didn't tell him that, but I was legit a little worried about it . . . Finally the investor said he was "willing to settle" for the $1900 we wired that was over the actual closing costs. We agreed because, hello, we just wanted it all to be over and I was having contractions and if we didn't close now, who knew when we would ever close.

So after signing 800 sheets of paper, we were all shaking hands and the attorney came back in and said that Morris (the investor) realized he couldn't really charge us interest since he never gave us any money up front and we would have had to calculate every time he wrote us a tiny little check for the cabinets and then for the flooring etc etc. Oh really buddy? You realize that now that you cheated us out of almost $2k. AND you have more money than you know what to do with and we had to borrow money to close on the house. Thanks buddy, your kindness is killing us.

But all that is just water under the bridge because we finally, FINALLY, own our house. Booyah!

And the contractions slowed down after the house-drama ended, so we didn't go to the hospital last night. But tonight? Tonight we will go to the hospital so that tomorrow morning I can be induced and we can meet Caden! I'll keep y'all posted - but pray for a safe and easy delivery!
