Caden Thomas

Caden is here, as I think you may have heard via twitter or facebook. He was born 7lbs 12oz, 20 inches long and he came fast and furious after they induced me, making his arrival at 10:01am. When he was born, everything looked great until they heard a heart murmur and his oxygen level was a little too low. They sent him up to the transitional nursery, and did an echo cardiogram and found some severe defects in his heart. They just told us that he has a severe Aortic Stenosis, as well as a narrowing in a portion of his aorta, and a mild mitral stenosis as well. He will probably need some type of heart surgery. We dont know much else yet, they just transferred him to a Children's hospital nearby, and Adam is going there to be with him. As soon as they discharge me I will join him. But we could really use your prayers. We are terrified, sad, a little angry, and basically everything feels like a bad dream right now. We are clinging to each other and trying our best to cling to God through this, but we are running on about 2 hours sleep and my body is pretty exhausted from everything, so we can use as many prayers as we can get at this point.

I figured this was the best way to keep everyone updated, we will do our best to let everyone know as we learn more.

  1. The crazy part about Phil. 4:6-7 isn't that it says to not be anxious about anything, at least not to me. The crazy part is that it says "with thanksgiving" to present your requests to God. But, here goes:
Father God, I am so very thankful for my friends Becca and Adam. They are truly Your Son with skin on, every day, every minute, every hour. satan stalked Him, and he's stalking this amazing couple, too. So God, I am thankful that they put their trust in YOU. You can't be defeated, and satan runs from You. I'm thankful that sweet Caden was born into a place and time where his heart defects could be so swiftly discovered and addressed. And I'm thankful for the power of the Internet to allow many to rise up and lift this family up to You. Lord, we ask for Your will to be done in all things, for us to be able to clearly see Your fingerprints all over this, and for YOU to be glorified. Protect Caden, Father; enlighten the doctors. And cover Becca, Adam and Jayci with YOUR peace...
    In Your Son's powerful name,
    Amen

  26. Hi dear Stanly Clan, my friend Gini Bramlett posted your prayer request. My heart is overwhelmed with prayers for you and your little one. This April we found out our eight year old daughter was born with the same thing, but they never found the problem until this years checkup. She too has aortic stenosis (or had, she just had coarctation of aorta surgery on July 6th) and mitral stenosis(along with a VSD (hole between the left and right ventricle and a bicuspid instead of a tricuspid valve). Praise God that they found it now! We are blessed that nothing bad happened to our precious Kiley in the eight years of her life before hand, as her aorta was almost completely closed when they found it. We will be praying for Caden and for you as you recover and deal with this. Should you have any questions about them please email me at plattsrus@gmail.com. I would love to help you if I can, if not only to be a support for you. Prayers are being lifted as we speak.

  27. Becca, I wish I could be there to give you a BIG HUG and pray over precious Caden in person. But I will do the next best thing and cover you guys in prayer here as often as I can! He is just adorable and perfect! I'm rejoicing in his birth and the blessing that God has given you. I'm also trusting Him with Caden's help and the journey you are on. Love and Hugs.

  31. Hi... My name is Katie (a friend of the Schellhammers from Upstate NY)... I read the story about your sweet Caden from her Fbook page. I am praying for Caden, your family, and the doctors this morning. God is with you all this morning and is with the doctors too, as they perform this surgery. He is good and has put wonderful people on this Earth to help us in times of need ;)
    Blessings.

  33. I could write a lot but I know this:
    God is Faithful!
I have been praying for another baby girl and she is 2 now. She is the Half-Hearted Princess as she was born with half a heart.
God is no respecter of person!
    God is Caden's healer!
