A "Better" Beach Recap

"Better" is in quotes like that, because I'm not positive this post is actually going to be better, per se. Longer, yes; better, probably not.

We started our trip out by driving through the night to Naples after spending 20 hours in foster care training over the weekend. That was obviously our first mistake. Our second mistake? Thinking that Jayci would actually SLEEP in the car simply because it was night-time. Obviously, we made it safely to Florida, although I wasn't sure if that would be the case during the 2-3am shift. It was then that I made the mistake of eating an entire large bag of sour patch kids. Can I just tell you that sour patch kids are a delicious and effective way to stay awake when sleepy-driving? However, your tongue will not be pleased with you the next day.

We spent Monday recovering from our Sunday-night drive (because why would Jayci sleep in? It's not like she didn't sleep all night or anything) and working a little, trying to get Jayci a passport (what? You don't like doing that on your vacations?) and waiting for our dear friends to join us.

Tuesday and Wednesday were beach days. Obviously, with a few margaritas, homemade guacamole, and some good reads, thrown in there for good measure.

Jayci was scared of the water. And it took her a good hour or two before she was ready to get sand on her hands without immediately running to me so I could wash it off. However, she never stopped running away whenever the water got too close.
We also did a lot of this. Eating is our favorite thing to do, and everyone knows that vacation calories don't count.
While we were at the beach, Adam and Ryan discovered a large number of stingrays, and decided that corralling them was a great idea. Court and I knew they were up to something because we kept hearing screams and seeing people running out of the water. And we thought, with a mixture of pride and embarrassment, those are our husbands (and some other random guy who joined in their shenanigans)
And take another look at our super-cool (or not cool at all) matching husbands.
On our way to the beach, we stopped at the bank to grab some cash for parking. Court and I were in her car with her two boys, and Adam and Ryan were driving Jayci in our car. We watched as Ryan made funny faces at the boys out the window and pondered how strange our husbands are. We asked each other why they thought it was so funny to wear silly things, especially matching silly things like headbands, sunglasses, and yellow shirts. They're just weird, we said, as we put our (matching) sunglasses back on and noticed we were both wearing red tank tops. . .

Thursday, we were "beached out" a little, and decided taking the kids to the pool was a better option. That way, they could actually come home for naps at the normal time and hopefully we could avoid epic meltdowns at dinner time. Probably not, but we can hope right?

The kids had fun at the pool too, and I thoroughly enjoyed the option of sitting in the sun and reading since Jayci was too scared to actually get in the water anyways. Don't worry, there were 3 other adults keeping an eye on her too.
We quickly realized the life-vest-bathing-suit was a little unnecessary since she stayed far away from the pool. And whenever Adam came near enough to bring her in with him, she said "NO dada" and ran.
The closest she got to the action. Note: I would never post a picture of myself with a slight wedgie, but it's a cute look on her.
Here she is imitating the cute old man swimming laps, what a sweet snarky little girl I've raised. We were staying in my grandmother's house in Florida which means the pool was mostly full of older people who are probably used to quiet (aka NOT our gaggle at the pool).
She finally has curls. I knew they'd come out eventually, and I'm so glad.
This is getting ridiculously long. To be fair, I did warn you it would be. However, I think I should end it here. In summary, we had a great time, a little too short really, but wonderful while it lasted. But now we have lots of work to catch up on and camp planning to do. Only a few more weeks until camp starts!
