It May be a Small Christmas Miracle

So it's 10:30am and I have already been to the Post Office and the DMV this morning. I know, I'm as shocked as you are.

When we flew to Dallas a while back to visit some friends, the nice man at security informed me that my drivers' license was expired, almost a year prior. Whoops.

So this morning, with much trepidation and a long novel in hand, I headed to the DMV. Because I seem to remember waiting in line in the cold to take my driver's license test. And I also vaguely remember making my mom drive me out to East Bumble to take the test because I was convinced it was easier there. My logical remains impeccable.

This morning at the DMV, however, I waited a grand total of 34 minutes. Which is actually quite perfect because it turns out that you get your license fo' free if you have to wait more than 30 minutes to renew it.

And the good news is that you don't have to re-take the driving test unless your license has been expired for two whole years and not just one year like mine. I'm not going to lie, I was a little worried about the parallel parking.

Anyhow, long-story short (ha yeah right) I ended up with a shiny new license and another bad picture. Perfect.

Although nothing can be worse than my passport picture, because the guy kept telling me I absolutely could NOT smile (apparently the rules are really strict for Canadian passports regarding shadows and smiling. Now that I write that though it sounds like the passport picture guy may have been pulling my leg and is probably still laughing about it) So I basically look like a murderer of some sort. Or at least like I'm very angry about my bad hair day and slight double chin.

  1. Seriously, I think passport pictures are meant to be horrible, because mine is awful!!!!!!!!

Oh funny, I can just imagine if you had to take the driving test again, LOL!!!!

  2. Wow. What a lucky day for you (excluding the bad picture of course). You really should be thankful for that 34 minute wait. And how cool is that it it's free if you wait more than 30?!

  3. hilarious...and thanks for the insider's info, esp. about the 30 minute wait! Bet you didn't know just how helpful this post would be to "someone out there"... I have to go renew mine when I go home for Christmas (renewing in GA because we kept GA tags and insurance on our cars) because I have yet to change my name on my license in the year and a half that I've been married and had a different name.

And let me just mention that the name difference on your license can make things difficult when you fly and forget to book your ticket in your maiden name to match your license and don't realize it til you're going through security trying to make your flight...

  4. Did you get the new license or the old one?

  5. Ummm my driver's license expired without me realizing it, too (it was 10 months past its due date! who knew?!), so Cutie Face and I went to the DMV...but must be they don't have the half an hour rule in downtown. Bummer. Glad you got yours for free, though, and that you didn't have to take the test (that freaked me out, too)

  6. You are SO so SO funny. Hilarious. And just when I think I can't love you any more than I already do, I do : ) I would be worried if I had to take the drivers license test again too. Very, very worried!
